OUR MISSION

We accept with joy our mission to spread the good news of Jesus Christ through ministries of love and justice, the word of God, and liturgy. Under the leadership of our bishop, and working alongside priests and other baptized persons, we offer ourselves in service in our congregations, work places, neighborhoods, and communities.

DEACONS

are ordained ministers who take the spirit and message of Jesus to God's poor. Called to serve in both church and world, deacons give generously of time, energy, and talents. They lead, recruit, train, and encourage baptized persons as they reach out to the sick and aged, those in prison, the hungry and homeless. In the Eucharist deacons are angels and waiters who proclaim the gospel, announce the topics of prayer, and organize the sacred meal.

COMMUNITY OF DEACONS

The deacons and those in formation meet occasionally (with spouses), chat on an Internet list, undertake special projects, and speak out on issues of mercy and justice.

For photos and sketches of Louisiana deacons, see pelideacons (peli = pelican). Candidates are at pelicandidates.
